About Indianapolis, IN - Happy to be your hometown Heating & Air Conditioning Contractor!
Indianapolis is the thriving capital of Indiana, and with over 863,000 residents, it is easily the largest city in the state by population. The city’s history spans three centuries, as it was founded in 1820, and the population soared from 1850 to 1900. Urban development continued, and as of 2018, three Fortune 500 companies call the city home – Anthem, Inc., Eli Lilly, and Simon Property Group. The city’s centralized location, rail infrastructure, and highway access have also positioned Indianapolis as a highly important logistics center in the U.S., and it is home to one of the largest FedEx Express hubs in the world. Higher education is also important to life in Indianapolis, with Indiana University – Purdue University Indianapolis, Ivy Tech Community College of Indiana, and five private universities all calling the city home.
This booming metropolis is home to many tourist attractions and cultural opportunities. There are several museums dedicated to the visual arts, such as the Indianapolis Museum of Art, the Indianapolis Art Center, and the Eiteljorg Museum of American Indians and Western Art. Attractions for the whole family can be enjoyed at the Children’s Museum of Indianapolis, the Indianapolis Zoo, or the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum. Further, sports enthusiasts can enjoy a game from one of the city’s two major league sports teams – the Indianapolis Colts and the Indianapolis Pacers.
Residents of Indianapolis will quickly learn to prepare for four very different seasons throughout the year. The winter season is arguably the most noteworthy, as it is characterized by cold temperatures and snow. High temperatures average in the mid-30s during January and February, but lows often plummet into the 20s once the sun goes down. A reliable gas or electric furnace is a necessity, and newer models offer energy efficient features that will lower home heating costs.
The spring season is warm and wet with the chance for severe storms, but by June it breaks into a hot, muggy summer. High temperatures in the 90s coupled with significant humidity can lead to some stuffy conditions outdoors, so many residents retreat indoors. A central air conditioner can keep them cool throughout the season, and it can usually be switched off at the end of September when a mild fall season begins.
